National Hockey League: Flyers' rookie camp set to open Thursday

Summer might not be over yet but winter sports are getting set to start anyway.

In particular, the Flyers will be getting things going on Thursday when 27 rookies report to early training camp at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, N.J.

The five-day schedule will include a pair of games against the New York Rangers rookies, beginning on Friday night (7 p.m.) and concluding Saturday night (5 p.m.) at the PPL Center, home of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (the Flyers' AHL affiliate) in Allentown.

Among the first-year players on hand will be forward Jett Luchanko, who saw action in four Flyers games at the beginning of last season, and highly touted defenseman Oliver Bonk, son of former NHL standout Radek Bonk.

In addition to Thursday's session at the FTC, the rookies will also practice on Monday (Sept. 15) and Tuesday (Sept. 16). Sunday is an off day. All practices begin at 11 a.m. and are free and open to the public.
