AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - While the early signing period for Division I football has come to an end, there was still ink left in the pen to sign in front of family and friends.
Georgia All-State quarterback Jim Franklin from Aquinas and South Carolina All-State running back Jevon Edwards from South Aiken signed letters of intent on Wednesday.
The two had 4-year varsity careers at their respective institutions.
Franklin, who's been committed to Davidson College since June, finalized his decision.
"Just the family atmosphere and everything is, they make you feel at home, just like Aquinas and Davidson. It's a great school, so I'm truly excited," said Franklin.
The quarterback compiled a career stat sheet with the Fightin' Irish: 6,512 passing yards, 1,326 rushing yards, 88 total TD.
His name will be considered one of the greats to play along Highland Ave.
"Jim's towards the top, if not the toughest kid I've ever coached. He's been through some pretty gruesome injuries. This year he was in the ICU, got out and was at practice and went through a practice. He's just that kind of kid. One of the best leaders I've ever been around," said Coach James Leonard.
At South Aiken, Jevon Edwards has officially closed the book on his T-bred career.
The senior capped out a historic campaign at South Aiken, finishing as one of four in program history to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a single season.
The running back chose Coastal Carolina to be his next home after receiving offers from Army, Charleston Southern, Charlotte and East Carolina.
No. 10, who's been a staple at the hips of T-bred quarterbacks finished with: 850 carries for 6,689 yards and 78 TD.
In the air: 36 catches for 482 yds 3 TD.
"That's something I've never really liked, really cared about. Well, it's also a blessing. I understand that and it's really just mean everything to me to be able to put my heart into this program over the last four years," said Edwards.
"The special ones the guys that are different the guys that go to the next level, usually they have that extra something where they go and do extra stuff on their own. That's just the way he was he was always getting extra stuff. He always wanted to be coached. He wanted to be told the truth about things and he was disappointed if he felt like he didn't get coached up that day," said Coach Chris Hamilton.
