From the Archives: Dec. 7 in the Pioneer

Dec. 7 -- December 7, 2014 -- The Bemidji Archery Club recently hosted a "Shoot for the Cure" event at the Beltrami County Fairgrounds to raise money for funding treatments and cures for breast cancer. The group raised about $140, which will be donated to the University of Minnesota for breast cancer research.

December 7, 1999 -- A plan to send letter-sized mail to St. Cloud to be sorted has not been officially canceled, but local American Postal Workers Union President Kent Bahr has said that the community is large enough to have the mail continue to be sorted in Bemidji. If the decision goes through, Bemidji would lose its postmark.

December 7, 1974 -- Lou Ferreri and Jim Back have opened an interior design and advertising company called 411 1/2 , located above Gambles on Beltrami Avenue. The pair have taken on jobs for many local businesses, including Sounds of Ivory, O'Meara's, Paul Bunyan Manufacturing, and even some illustration jobs for the Pioneer.

December 7, 1924 -- Three members of a committee appointed by the U.S. Veterans Bureau visited Bemidji to decide on a site for the tuberculosis hospital to be built in the 10th District. They visited two sites north and south of Bemidji. The committee members will go to Brainerd for a similar inspection before making a decision.
