I tried new city centre Popeyes restaurant which is the chain's first Lincolnshire location | Lincolnshire Live

Earlier this month Popeyes opened a restaurant in the city centre, which is also the chain's first location in Lincolnshire. It's hard to miss the bright orange signage on the High Street, so on my recent visit to Lincoln I decided to try it out and order lunch.

There were a few touch screen order points on the wall and despite the clock only just hitting 12pm it was absolutely packed inside. I've never been to a Popeyes before, and usually find myself at McDonald's if I'm fancying fast food, so I wasn't sure what to order and spent a few minutes scrolling through the menu.

I decided on the cheesy chicken sandwich, a portion of cheesy loaded fries - you can never have enough cheese - and then a Biscoff milkshake. Although this was a tough decision, as they also sell Oreo and strawberry cheesecake shakes, plus the usual strawberry, vanilla and chocolate options.

My order, which cost £15.48, was ready in under five minutes, despite the store being quite hectic inside. It's not a huge store so I wasn't convinced I would find somewhere to sit, but luckily I found an open table by the window and on the walk over I realised they also offered table service which is good to know.

My milkshake looked incredible, it was really thick and had a ridiculous amount of biscuit pieces on the top. Popeyes prides itself on its chicken, and states it is all 100 per cent fresh chicken which is marinated for 12 hours in its signature blend before being breaded and battered by hand.

My sandwich, which is basically a chicken burger and left me questioning the actual difference between a burger and sandwich, was pretty good and I can see what the fuss is about, although it's not the best thing I've ever had. At first I was disappointed by the lack of melted cheese as I could only see a square slice, but I soon realised there were two layers of cheese and the second one was actually just like how it looked on the menu photo.

The loaded fries were pretty good, but I wish they came with a fork or something as they are not the tidiest thing to eat, although the four napkins I got with my order did come in handy for this. The menu felt like a cross between McDonald's and KFC, and I probably would go again next time I find myself in the city centre.

They have a few box meals which are good value and I'm also curious to see what their breakfast menu is like.
