The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced Monday an increase in financial compensation to immigrants living in the country illegally who self-deport.
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem played on the Christmas season to announce the updated incentive.
"It's home for the holidays season," she told Fox News' Lawrence Jones. "If you're in this United States of America illegally, we will give you $3,000 through the holidays to send you home."
It's a compensation upgrade to the first time the concept was rolled out in May, initially offering immigrants $1,000 to self-deport through the CBP Home app.
In the latest press release, Noem called the $2,000 addition a "gift" that the U.S. taxpayer is "generously" increasing. Since January, 1.9 million immigrants have voluntarily self-deported, according to the press release.
Once DHS confirms that the migrant has moved back to their home country using the app, a compensation of $3,000 would be given. The DHS says this is a much more humane way to leave the United States than being forcibly removed via U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"Illegal aliens should take advantage of this gift and self-deport because if they don't, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will not return," Noem posted on X.
Those who go through the app to self-deport will receive free air travel. The government-funded flight is one tactic in President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration.
