Armed police swarm sleepy street after 'targeted shooting' as masked men spotted

A man has been shot in a what police believe was a "targeted attack".

Detectives are appealing for information after the victim was injured in Huddersfield last night. Police received a report at 8.01pm that a man had been shot in the leg and shoulder on Smiths Avenue in the Marsh area of the town.

Officers located the victim, who is aged in his 30s, on New Hey Road and he was taken to hospital with injuries which are described as serious but not life-threatening.

Police have said that the victim was taken to hospital after being shot in the leg and shoulder.

A statement read: "Detectives are appealing for information after a man was injured in a firearms discharge in Huddersfield last night (Monday, 1 December).

"Police received a report at 8.01pm that a man had been shot in the leg and shoulder on Smiths Avenue in the Marsh area of Huddersfield. Officers located the injured man, who is aged in his 30s, on New Hey Road and he was taken to hospital with injuries which are described as serious but not life-threatening."

Detective Inspector Suzanne Hall, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "We understand the concern that it will cause that someone has been injured in a firearms incident. Any use of a firearm is something we treat extremely seriously, and we are following up all available lines of enquiry to ensure that those involved are caught and any weapons used are recovered and taken off our streets.

"Our neighbourhood policing colleagues are supporting our investigation and residents can expect to see an increased policing presence in the area, both to progress house to house and CCTV enquiries but also to provide community reassurance. This is being treated as a targeted attack. I would urge anyone who witnessed the events surrounding the firearms discharge to please make contact.
