DA lays charges over South Africans lured to Russia

The Democratic Alliance says it has laid criminal charges against uMkhonto weSizwe Party MP Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla over the alleged recruitment of 17 South African men to Russia, reports Cape {town} Etc.

The DA said new evidence shows the men were promised bodyguard training and work but found themselves at the front lines in Ukraine.

According to EWN, police units are now probing the claims. The Hawks confirmed they are investigating complaints linked to the matter. Families of some of the men have made urgent appeals for help.

A DA spokesperson described the recruits as 'deceived, endangered and exploited' and said the party would seek full accountability. The DA also reported the matter to Parliament's ethics committee.

Government officials say diplomatic channels are active to locate and repatriate any citizens found in the conflict zone. The presidency has urged families to provide details so authorities can assist.

The MK Party has denied involvement and said it will cooperate with investigators.

The case involves complex cross-border elements and could lead to charges including human trafficking if evidence supports the claims.
