The inaugural New Jersey-India Commission economic mission concluded Dec. 16 in the Indian capital of New Delhi.

Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way led the trip, along with the commission as well as a delegation of New Jersey leaders and key stakeholders. It included a slew of announcements, agreements, and visits to business and cultural hubs throughout India.

On the final day, the New Jersey-India Commission in conjunction with Choose New Jersey facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the New Jersey Department of State, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Rowan University.

The MOU aims to establish a strong link between the global technology centers of India and New Jersey to advance research and development.

"We have a longstanding and continuously growing partnership with India, and this MOU further solidifies our connection to its booming technology industry," said Way. "We look forward to creating new opportunities together, driving innovation, and fostering growth for both regions. The collaboration between the Confederation of Indian Industry and Rowan University allows for advancements in research and development to benefit our respective residents."

"At Rowan University, we are committed to advancing innovation through impactful research and global partnerships," said Ali Houshmand, president, Rowan University. "This agreement with the Confederation of Indian Industry and the State of New Jersey underscores our dedication to fostering meaningful collaborations that benefit our students, faculty, and partners while addressing critical challenges in the technology sector."

Choose New Jersey President and CEO Wesley Mathews, also chair of the New Jersey-India Commission, said the agreement is a testament to the Garden State's commitment to being a global leader in technology and innovation.

"Our partnership will help elevate the work of talented researchers and business leaders in both New Jersey and India, driving breakthroughs in technology that can shape the future for generations to come," said Mathews.
