Giddey stuffs stocking as Bulls steal win from Hawks

Australian guard Josh Giddey posted his seventh triple-double of the NBA campaign as Chicago completed a season sweep of Atlanta in a 126-123 comeback win.

After combining for 302 points two days earlier in the highest-scoring game of the season, the teams gave defence a little more consideration at State Farm Arena on Tuesday (local time).

Giddey's Bulls trailed almost the entire game, were down by 13 entering the final period and still faced a double-figure deficit with just over six minutes left to play.

But they finished hot with a 34-18 fourth quarter, reclaiming a lead which they had not held since the opening five minutes of the contest, and survived a dramatic finish.

Chicago had an inbounds pass with scores tied and 1.9 seconds on the clock when Atlanta's Zaccharie Risacher was called for an away-from-play foul.

Coby White sunk the resulting free-throw to put the Bulls in front and Nikola Vucevic sunk another two from the stripe to seal the result.

White had 24 points and Vucevic 21, while Giddey contributed 19 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds.

Giddey's seventh triple-double is the second-most in the league this season behind Denver's Nikola Jokic, who has 14.

The 23-year-old Boomers star and White both also had seven of the Bulls' 16 turnovers, compared to Atlanta's total of 11.

Jalen Johnson (24 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds) and Trae Young (22 points, 15 rebounds) starred for the Hawks.

Nickeil Alexander-Walker had 21 points after starting for Atlanta in place of Australian guard Dyson Daniels, who sat out with a sore hip.

Giddey wasy busy early and had eight points, nine assists and eight rebounds to half-time, but Chicago trailed 55-68 at the main break.

It was a far cry from two days earlier when the Bulls put up 83 first-half points in their highest-scoring half of basketball since their 1998 championship season.

Tempers flared midway through the final period when Hawks star Young and the Bulls' Ayo Dosunmu were involved in an off-ball altercation.

Players from both sides rushed in to remonstrate and took some time to be separated by referees.

The Bulls settled and powered home on a 19-8 run to beat Atlanta for the third time in as many attempts this season.

Chicago (14-15) have now won four straight games and five of their last six, while Atlanta (15-16) have lost four straight and eight of their last 10.
