Motorola Edge 70 Ultra Leak Highlights Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and Camera Upgrades - Gizmochina

Motorola's next flagship phone, expected to launch as the Edge 70 Ultra, is back in the news after a new leak from Evan Blass. He reports that the device, codenamed Urus, will run on Qualcomm's recently announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip. This matches earlier benchmark results that linked the same chipset to a Motorola model with the XT2603-1 identifier.

The Edge 70 Ultra will be Motorola's first non-folding Ultra phone in a few years, since the company skipped the Edge 60 Ultra. It is expected to sit above the regular Edge 70 models but below the Razr Ultra 2026, which is rumored to use the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is built on a 3 nm process. It uses an Oryon CPU with two cores clocked at 3.8 GHz and six cores clocked at 3.32 GHz. Qualcomm says it delivers higher performance than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in everyday tasks, multitasking, and heavy workloads. The chip includes an updated Adreno GPU that focuses on stable gaming performance while keeping power use lower. Its Hexagon NPU improves on-device AI features, including local processing for generative models, voice recognition, and multimodal inputs. Connectivity support covers 5G with mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, UWB, and NavIC. Camera support includes triple 20-bit pipelines, large photo capture, 4K high frame rate recording, 8K playback, and modern HDR standards.

Rumors say the Edge 70 Ultra will include 16 GB of RAM and run Android 16. It may feature a 1.5K OLED screen and a rear camera system with a periscope telephoto lens. Early benchmark scores show 2,636 in single core tests and 7,475 in multi core tests, which fits the performance range of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.

The phone is expected to launch first in China as the Moto X70 Ultra before a global release in early 2026. Based on past Motorola Ultra pricing and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5's position in Qualcomm's lineup, the price will likely land in the high 800 to low 900 dollar range.
