Karoline Leavitt has already been labeled "a stone-cold liar," but her nose doesn't seem to stop growing. The White House Press Secretary has now come under public scrutiny after her comments about Trump's riches went viral.
At a resurfaced press briefing, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt had claimed Donald Trump "lost money" by becoming president. When asked about corruption allegations against Trump, she proudly delivered one of the most comic defenses in political history. "He left a life of luxury and a successful real estate empire for public service," she said. "This is a president who has actually lost money for being president."
If that doesn't break someone in laughter, her preceding statement would. Leavitt called it "ridiculous" for Americans to suggest that "President Trump is doing anything for his own benefit." Unfortunately for her, some people can still do math. According to Forbes, Trump's net worth as of Sept. 2025 stands at $7.3 billion. It's a whopping $3 billion increase since last year.
The $3 billion didn't come from Trump's "successful real estate empire." It was cryptocurrency ventures, new licensing deals, and court wins that erased half-billion-dollar judgments after he returned to office. He also got $400 million from foreign developers racing to slap his name on buildings, reviving his dormant licensing business. If anything, his accountants are probably "losing" their minds on how to escape the taxes.
Leavitt's comments were targeted by MSNBC, too, which added the obvious: Trump never left a life of luxury. He simply moved from a golden penthouse to a taxpayer-funded mansion. He has dozens of people running around him all day, calling him "sir." And he spends his weekends on Mar-a-Lago, where his wealthy devotees literally pay to worship him.
The truth isn't hidden from anyone. When you're a president, your every move is plastered on headlines. So, we pulled them. And guess what? Within months of his return to power, the Trump family sealed Middle Eastern real-estate deals and huge crypto investments (via TNR). From Qatar's Trump-branded golf course to a billion-dollar hotel in Dubai and a new Trump Tower in Jeddah, Leavitt's claims are collapsing everywhere.
When Leavitt didn't bother with reading facts, social media didn't bother with restraint while responding to her comments. One wrote, "Her brain is infected with Trump fungus. Incurable." Another called out her lying habit, saying, "How big will this woman's nose get before Trump throws her away like he does all his stooges?" Trump, obviously, came under the bus too.
"Trump lost money by being president" is right up there with "my dog ate my homework" on the list of unconvincing excuses. Sure, he left his "successful real estate empire" (which had more bankruptcies than a reality show reunion) for "public service." Next, they'll tell us he invented the internet and moonwalked on Mars." (via X)
So while Leavitt is busy calling Trump selfless, he's probably busy signing another hotel deal in the Middle East. Oh, and he evades the Constitution by keeping his sons at the forefront of his deals. While it might get him off the hook of the judiciary, people know the truth.
