John Sugden's time is running out on Emmerdale - but the killer had one more victim in mind. John has framed his half brother Robert for pushing both him and Aaron off the cliff to their near deaths.
However, of course, viewers know that it was John who was responsible for his and Aaron's fall, with his whole plan to ensure that Robert never got the life he wouldn't be able to have.
In a shocking twist tonight, John went to visit Aaron in hospital - where they are both still patients - and tried to ensure Aaron wouldn't survive the fall. The alarms went off and the nurses rushed to Aaron's aid whilst John tried to make an escape.
He convinced Cain - who is none the wiser about John's true killer ways - to take him away from the hospital - but what has John got planned and is Aaron going to make it through?
Finally, at the end of tonight's episode, a terrified Aaron woke up and told Chas and Liam that they needed to get John. He was barely able to speak but told them that John had Mackenzie, and finally the truth of what John has been up to has been exposed.
As Chas and Liam rushed to apprehend John and confront him, they found Victoria who said John had discharged himself. She went running out to the front of the hospital but failed to get John before he sped off.
Fans will no doubt be hoping for a positive future for Aaron and Robert, something Danny Miller teased a few weeks back. He shared: "I do think they're supposed to be together. I do believe they are two people who've always needed each other.
"This is the opportunity for Robert to express that and Aaron manages to find a way of pushing him away because he knows from previous experiences that him and Robert shouldn't work, although they do work, they want to work though they haven't in the past."
He added: "He's still got a lot of anger towards Robert for handing himself in to the police and cutting ties when he went to prison, so there's all that to play as well." Danny had expressed his fears for his character
"John's back is well and truly against the wall and he's running out of options and people are starting to home in and close the net on him, he's not really got an escape route," he said.
"I don't think even John knows what he wants to do to get himself out of the situation but what he does know is that he doesn't want to lose the battle to Robert.
"Whether that's genuine true love with Aaron - I think it is - or whether that's been overtaken by John's hatred towards Robert, it means he simply can't lose the battle."
