Maryland officials confirm measles case, warn of exposure at Washington Dulles Airport

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (7News) -- A positive case of measles was confirmed in a Howard County resident who recently traveled internationally, according to the Maryland Department of Health.

Health and county officials in Maryland said that the confirmed case is not associated with the measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico. Health officials said they are coordinating an effort to find people who might have been exposed.

Following the reported case, health officials said that anyone who visited Washington Dulles International Airport and John Hopkins Howard County Medical Center Pediatric Emergency Department may have been exposed to the virus.

Health officials warn that early symptoms of measles include a fever of more than 101 degrees Fahrenheit, runny nose, cough and red, watery eyes. A few days after the early symptoms, a red rash appears on the face and spreads to the rest of the body, officials said.
