PENDLETON -- Hill Meat Co. in Pendleton received a helping hand from the Port of Umatilla to build an $18 million expansion of its processing facility.
Hill Meat in an announcement Friday, Dec. 13, reported the company needed to secure the space for essential utilities to cross a neighboring property. After discussions with Kim Puzey, general manager of the Port of Umatilla, and the port's representative counsel, David Blanc, the Port of Umatilla "graciously offered a parcel of land at a very nominal cost to facilitate this critical project, according to the announcement.
The support from the Port of Umatilla is an important step in ensuring Hill Meat Co. can continue to expand and improve its operations to meet the growing demand for its products.
"We are incredibly grateful for the support we've received from the port commission, Kim Puzey and David Blanc," Nicole Sorensen, president of Hill Meat Co. said in the statement. "This partnership is an excellent example of how local organizations work together to support thegrowth of family-owned businesses like ours. The port's generosity has made this expansion possible, and we are proud to continue our operations in Pendleton and Umatilla County."
