Golf event raises $12K for Shriners Children's New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Police Union's charitable foundation, 364 Gives, presented a $12,000 donation to Shriners Children's New England on Dec. 23, 2025, to support specialized pediatric care.

The donation was made during a check presentation event in memory of fallen Springfield Police Officer Kevin Ambrose, who died in the line of duty in 2012.

The funds were raised through the foundation's annual golf tournament, reflecting Officer Ambrose's commitment to helping others.

Officer Martin Curley, president of Local 364 of the Springfield Police Union, spoke about Officer Ambrose's legacy. "Kevin was a lover of children. He was a coach and a mentor. He was a father, grandfather, he was the guy that walked into a room, and everyone smiled," Curley said.

Shriners Children's New England provides specialized pediatric care to children, regardless of their ability to pay. Frances Marthone, Ph.D., MSN, RN, the administrator at the hospital, emphasized the importance of the recent donation. "We see kids, regardless if they are able to pay or have insurance status, so this helps to support our mission to see all kids with all needs," Marthone said.

Since its inception, 364 Gives has donated over $200,000 to more than 25 organizations supporting public safety and initiatives designed to enhance children's lives in the local community. This support illustrates the Springfield Police Union's ongoing commitment to fostering positive impacts in the area.

The donation will enable Shriners Children's New England to expand its efforts in providing specialized care to children in need. As the police union continues its charitable endeavors, further fundraising initiatives are expected in the upcoming year to support various community programs.
