Dengue cases surge across Punjab after floods

LAHORE: Dengue cases are climbing rapidly across Punjab, with hospitals in Lahore reporting a steady influx of patients.

Health authorities confirmed 23 new cases in the past 24 hours -- including five in Lahore -- taking the provincial tally to 721 so far this year. At least 200 infections have been reported in September alone.

Doctors say the surge is linked to stagnant water left behind by recent floods, which has created ideal breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

"The number of patients is increasing because of flood conditions," said Dr. Muhammad Dilshad of Services Hospital. "Anti-mosquito spraying must be intensified."

Residents have voiced concerns as surveillance and fumigation drives remain patchy in many areas, prompting calls for urgent measures to curb the outbreak.
