Creighton assistant Ryan Miller has been hired as Murray State's head coach, a source confirmed to The World-Herald on Thursday.
Miller, 49, finally gets an opportunity to run his own program after serving as an assistant at UNLV, TCU and Creighton over the past decade, and Bluejays coach Greg McDermott now has to replace one of his top assistants.
Miller was crucial to Creighton's recruiting efforts in his four years in Omaha.
Shortly after arriving in April 2021, he helped secure the No. 7 class that included Trey Alexander, Ryan Nembhard and Arthur Kaluma. He helped deliver this year's top-20 class, too, that featured Jackson McAndrew, Ty Davis and Larry Johnson.
Miller, the brother of former NBA sharpshooter Mike Miller and uncle of Jays forward Mason Miller, quarterbacked McDermott's renowned offense the past two seasons.
Before that, he oversaw a Bluejays defense anchored by four-time Big East defensive player of the year Ryan Kalkbrenner.
Murray State mutually parted with three-year Steve Prohm on Saturday. The Racers, still adjusting to the Missouri Valley Conference after moving out of the Ohio Valley Conference, finished this season 16-17, 9-11 MVC.
Miller adds another branch to McDermott's coaching tree, joining Iowa State's TJ Otzelberger, West Virginia's Darian DeVries, High Point's Alan Huss and Oklahoma State's Steve Lutz, among others.
