Police: Bojangles employee shot at people through drive-thru window in West Columbia

WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. -- West Columbia Police said an employee at a fast-food restaurant shot and injured people outside the store during a violent exchange last weekend.

Police released an incident report Thursday which gave new details in the crime that took place on December 28 at the Bojangles at 1200 Augusta Road.

The report said just before 5:30 p.m., police got a ShotSpotter alert that gunfire had been detected in the area of the restaurant. When officers arrived, staff at the restaurant said an employee fired multiple shots from inside the restaurant and through the drive-thru window into a car outside. They said the employee then jumped through the drive-thru window and ran away.

Two victims were treated for injuries that police said were non life-threatening. Police have not said what they believe led to the shooting.

Hours after the shooting, however, police arrested 18-year-old Marterius Byrd on two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. Police are still looking for a second, unidentified suspect who is connected with the incident.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
