Nebraska running back transfers to Kentucky

A former Husker is now a part of the SEC. Nebraska running back Dante Dowdell announced on Friday he committed to the Kentucky Wildcats. Dowdell transferred to Nebraska after spending his freshman year with the Oregon Ducks.

Dowdell entered the portal on Tuesday after playing in every game for Nebraska during the regular season. The Picayune, Mississippi native rushed for 143 carries, 614 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, the most touchdowns by a Nebraska running back since 2018.

Dowdell joins a Kentucky team that finished the regular season with no running back rushing for over 600 yards. He emerged out of high school as a four-star recruit and a top 200 prospect. He was also ranked among the nation's top 10 running backs.

Dowdell is the first Husker running back to find a new home after entering the portal in 2024. Gabe Ervin Jr. and Ryker Evans entered the portal prior to Dowdell but still have yet to announce a destination. Nebraska still holds running back Emmett Johnson, who dropped out of the portal.
