I Tried the Trend: A Day in My Dream Life, According to ChatGPT

ChatGPT comes in clutch for almost everything - research, data analysis, scheduling content, etc. Most recently, social media users found it's also great for getting you one step closer to your dream life. In short, you tell the AI program to develop a typical day for you based on what you want your ideal life to include and it produces a response that will inspire you to go after it.

With 2025 quickly approaching, new year resolutions are top of mind for me. I used the viral 'A Day in My Dream Life' prompt to kickstart the journey to reaching them and I must say the outcome was impressive.

This year, I categorized my new year goals by themes. First, decentering romantic relationships. Second, taking excellent care of my mind, body, and soul. Third, leveling up in my career. This was the basis for the 'fill in the blank' portions of the prompt.

Here's the exact prompt I used: "Please create a day in the life of Kim, a single woman in her 30s, without kids. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia and prioritizes her mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. She enjoys pilates, karate, dancing and wants to incorporate them more into her schedule. Professionally, she is an award-winning journalist skilled in on-camera, written content, and production. She often travels for work so outsourcing everyday tasks is important. Give her strategy on how to decenter romantic relationships and find joy in being single. As well as resources on finding balance with work and play. Lastly, share tips on staying grounded, mentally, and emotionally."

What surprised me most about this response is the uncanny way ChatGPT read between the lines of my prompt -- Shoutout to the developers!

After reading, I asked myself, "What about my ask led to the accurate understanding that I'm passionate about "leadership, social justice, and mental health." Also, that I really value my friendships (a midday lunch with a friend is the perfect pick me up)? And, how did ChatGPT know I'm a sucker for large windows and natural light?!

My other favorite aspect of this response is how realistic and detailed it is. Currently, journaling has been my prime outlet for self-expression, so the fact that it's incorporated in my "dream life" lets me know I'm on the right track.

Additionally, I appreciate that this response leaves space for growth. For example it says, "She reflects on her day -- what went well, what she could improve..." This helps me to embrace the idea that perfectionism is a scam and getting better day by day is the real gold.

If I were to rate this response, I would give it a 10 out of 10. I'd make minor tweaks, but I appreciate how attainable this day in life feels. I'm already living most of this reality. Single, 30's, living in ATL, in my career of choice. This exercise has helped me to realize that small tweaks like outsourcing help, getting out my comfort zone, and sticking to a daily schedule will push me over the invisible "hump" so I can reach the success I desire.

Overall, I believe the virality of this prompt is because users have confirmation that what they want exists and it is available to them at this very moment. It's the inspiring boost needed to move as we close one chapter and begin another.
