South Africa's gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 0,5% in the third quarter of 2025, ending at the end of September.
Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) shared the good news on Wednesday.
About 0,9% increase was reported in the second quarter of 2025.
Bokang Vumbukani Lepolesa, Chief Director of National Accounts, at StatsSA, said the trade, catering and accommodation industry increased by 1,0%, contributing 0,1 of a percentage point to GDP growth.
Growth was also reported in wholesale trade, retail trade, motor trade, accommodation as well as in food and beverages.
The mining and quarrying industry increased by 2,3%, contributing 0,1 of a percentage point.
Vumbukani Lepolesa said the largest positive contributors were platinum group metals (PGMs), manganese ore and coal.
The finance, real estate and business services industry increased by 0,3%, while general government services upped by 0,7%, contributing 0,1 of a percentage point.
Researchers have attributed this, to increased employment in national and provincial government and extra-budgetary institutions.
The personal services industry also went up by 0,3%, similar to the transport, storage and communication sector (0,5%).
The manufacturing industry also went up by 0,3%, including agriculture, forestry and fishing .
