Famous Birmingham restaurant Asha's returned to Selly Park Girls' School

Award-winning Birmingham restaurant Asha's returned to Selly Park Girls' School for a second year to deliver a hands-on cookery session to year 11 pupils.

The event - which took place on Friday, November 28 - was organised in partnership with Impact Food Group after last year's success, with the aim to introduce young people to the world of hospitality.

Asha's General Manager Nouman Farooqui said the team was eager to return, he said: "We wanted to do something to give back to the community, as a restaurant we can share our knowledge of food and running a successful hospitality business. It's important to introduce the students to hospitality in case they want to pick that up as a career in the future.

"Hospitality is a great way to kick-start a career, customer service is part of almost every business. If you're dealing with clients or guests, a smile goes a long way - and we're all about that"

Asha's chefs kicked off the session with demonstrations of two dishes, Prawn 65 and Aloo tikki with chickpeas, before students recreated the dishes themselves.

Nouman added: "The feedback was great, I've been told some students even took the recipes home and cooked the dishes for their families.

"We will be doing these classes more often, we will try to make more time for this because it feels very rewarding and it feels like we're doing something very productive. Giving back to the community is very important to us, it's our way to say thank you to people who have supported us."

Miss Stott, Head of Technology, said the pupils have been looking forward to this day. She added: "We're really grateful to have Asha's back here again for our year 11 pupils, it's a great experience and we're really hopeful that they can use what they learn today in their coursework."

Ben Massey Senior Operational Manager at Impact Food Group, praised the ongoing partnership and said: "I just wanted to say a massive thank you to team Asha's for coming at Sally Park, second year running this event and it's such a fantastic added value opportunity for the students here.

"It's great for the students to have some first hand opportunity to work with the restaurant, seeing hospitality and show them the career routes that are available to them."
