Sicamous saw a number of hot wheels over the summer as the RCMP investigated four vehicle thefts in the second quarter of the year.
In his report to council at the Oct. 22 Committee of the Whole meeting, Sgt. Murray McNeil provided stats for the quarter, with some details on the more significant files, including the thefts.
The first incident, which took place on July 1, started out as a break and enter at the Sicamous Alliance Church on Kappel Street involving a 15-year-old youth from Alberta who was on vacation with his family.
"He broke into the church and ended up stealing keys for a vehicle that belonged to the pastor," McNeil said.
He added that the Audi sedan was found abandoned in the ditch near Mara Hills Golf Club on Old Spallumcheen Road, and no charges were filed against the youth.
On Aug. 26 a 2004 GMC pickup was stolen from a property on Main Street and has not yet been recovered, while a 2007 GMC truck was taken on Sept. 1 and taken on a road trip. The pickup was pilfered while the owner was out houseboating, and driven through the storage gate at 4 a.m. It was found by police in Olds, Alta. on Sept. 18.
The fourth incident happened on Sept. 9, when a fifth-wheel travel trailer was taken from a property on Old Town Road.
"The thief took the trailer and set it up on a forest service road just east of town," McNeil said. "And of course, when a trailer is set up on a forest service it draws attention and we got a call for that recovery."
He added it was found undamaged on Cambie FSR the following day and was returned to the owner.
Those thefts for the quarter were consistent with the stats from last year, with four incidents reported then as well.
