DRIVERS are bracing for long delays this weekend as two motorways partially shut for roadworks.
Southampton drivers are advised to look into alternative routes as the M3 and the M27 are closed, October 10 to 12, according to National Highways.
To avoid delays to journeys across Hampshire, drivers are advised to take note of possible diversions routes.
On Friday, October 10, the M3 will have a carriageway closure between Junctions 12 and 11.
The carriageway is to shut from 9pm on Friday and reopen at 6am on Saturday.
There will be no further closures on the M3 from Saturday morning onwards.
Meanwhile, the M27 westbound will have a closed carriageway from Hilsea from to Junction 12 for the entire weekend.
The road will close to drivers at 9pm on Friday and reopen at 6am on Monday.
These closures are so upgrades can be made to bridges at the major interchange, linking the M27, the A27 and the M275 as part of an ongoing project.
On Saturday and Sunday there will be a exit slip road closure on the M27 westbound at Junction 10 to allow for Hampshire County Council to undertake major works.
The improvements are to maintain the safety of the bridges and make drivers journey's easier.
Hampshire chronicle reports that the works are primarily for improved surface drainage.
Junction 10 eastbound will also see a closure of the entry slip road. The slip roads will remain closed 9pm - 6am both days.
The road surface will be removed, and more waterproofing added ahead of the winter weather.
Emma Weston, project manager at National Highways, said: "Our workforce has made great progress, and we've also been very lucky with the weather.
"We're hoping that luck continues to hold, as adverse conditions can impact our work schedule - so do check your journey before setting off."
