About this time 20 years ago, Dan Mullen was finishing up a two-year stint as the quarterbacks coach at the University of Utah to follow head coach Urban Meyer to Florida.

On Monday, Mullen landed a former Ute from the transfer portal, his first transfer commit as head coach of the UNLV Rebels.

Early Monday evening, multiple outlets reported that running back Jaylon Glover, who spent three seasons at Utah before entering the portal this fall, had committed to Mullen and the Rebels.

The 5-foot-8 and 202 pound running back tallied 932 rushing yards on 215 carries with six touchdowns in his first two seasons in Salt Lake City but had just 60 yards on 12 carries with no touchdowns this season before entering the portal.

He'll try to get his career back on track at UNLV, which is 10-3 this season and ranked No. 24 in the country with a bowl game on Wednesday against Cal still to play.

Former head coach Barry Odom parlayed the Rebels' success into the head coaching job at Purdue, and the Rebels turned to Mullen to replace him.

Mullen, 52, was at Florida until 2008 before becoming the head coach at Mississippi State. He then returned to Florida as head coach in 2018 before getting fired in 2021.

He has been working in broadcasting for ESPN since then.

Elsewhere in transfer portal departures for Utah, former defensive tackle Simote Pepa announced Monday that he has committed to play for Washington.

A junior this season, the 6-foot-3, 340-pound Pepa tallied 10 tackles.
