Colorado football star Travis Hunter just capped an incredible junior season by hoisting the Heisman trophy in New York. The two-way contributor played more snaps than anyone in college football. He was dominant at multiple positions, leading the team in receiving and interceptions.
Despite his college football popularity, he remains humble. In a time when many are only interested in securing the most profitable personal situations in terms of NIL and the transfer portal, he's given back.
Deion "Bucky" Sanders Jr. appeared on the Zero 2 Sixty podcast this week to talk about the Buffs as they look ahead to their bowl game matchup with BYU. Travis Hunter was brought into the conversation. Sanders Jr. dropped some knowledge about the team's top player.
"You know he receives no NIL money from the collective?" he said. "And you know he's one of the biggest donors to the collective? Meaning he's paying a lot of other players' NIL on this team... He's paying at least 10-15 guys on the team. That's his own money."
Sanders Jr. says that Hunter is living off his lengthy list of endorsements, which now includes Adidas, as opposed to taking NIL money from the school's collective. That's allowed the money to be used on teammates. Taking it a step further, Bucky says that Hunter's been donating his own money to help fund the efforts. A true team player!
Travis Hunter has a spotlight that's largely unmatched in college football. He hasn't let the attention change who he is. When many in college sports are looking to better their own situations, he's chosen to support those around him. Soon, it will all pay off with a first round NFL Draft selection.
