What was supposed to be a night of celebration for Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter turned into an early exit after the 2024 Pro Bowler was ejected before taking a snap in the opening game of the 2025 NFL season.
As the Eagles' defense and the Dallas Cowboys' offense were lining up for the first play of the game, Carter appeared to spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Carter's apparent spit happened right in front of an official, who then threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct and ejected Carter from the game.
The move stunned fans online and NBC Sports commentators Mike Tirico and Cris Collinsworth.
"Did he spit? Did he spit on Dak Prescott?" Tirico asked from the booth. "I think he did."
"You just can't believe what you just saw," Collinsworth said.
Thursday's matchup between the Cowboys and the Eagles was the first game of the 2025 NFL season, which aired on NBC. The Eagles had just finished hanging their 2024 championship banner after winning Super Bowl LIX in February.
Several NFL Insiders on X said they believe Carter will be fined for his apparent spitting and possibly a suspension.
