Kristin Cavallari Says Intruder Incident Kicked Her Mom Instincts Into High Alert

Reality television star Kristin Cavallari is reliving an intruder incident that turned a family vacation into a terrifying situation.

During an episode of her "Let's Be Honest" podcast on Dec. 17, the 37-year-old shared that while quarantining during a family Bahamas trip during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, she woke up to a stranger crawling on her bedroom floor.

The "Laguna Beach" alum turned jewelry entrepreneur said she; her husband at the time, ex-NFL quarterback Jay Cutler; and their three children did not initially feel unsafe at the gated resort.

"We were in a condo and then the last week or so that we were there, we switched into a house. And I had all of my Uncommon James jewelry in the closet just laid out," she said. Uncommon James is the reality star's jewelry line.

"Our HVAC unit broke, so we had workers in our house that day and they were fixing everything," she said.

Cavallari remembers being in bed, with her oldest child, Camden -- who was 8 at the time -- sleeping next to her. She woke up to the sound of her bedroom door opening in the middle of the night.

"It woke me up because of the light from the kitchen. And I woke up to a man crawling on my bedroom floor. And I [was] so out of it 'cause obviously I had just woken up, that I go, 'What the [expletive] are you doing?' and this man stands up and runs out the door," she said.

She came to the realization it wasn't her husband who had walked in, but an intruder. She described the man as wearing a ski mask and all black clothing.

Cavallari initially stayed calm as she went through the house by herself. Once she was able to wake her husband, who was upstairs with their other children, she started shaking.

"But until that point, I was not scared, I was really calm ... again, you're just running off of instinct," she said.

With the incident happening more than four years ago, Cavallari noted her children are still unaware of what went down, citing her fear of impacting them emotionally.

"Because Cam was in the bed with me, I didn't yell. I didn't scream. You think in those moments that that's what you'd do, but your instincts just kick in. I honestly felt like I was in 'Mission Impossible,'" she said.

"I will not tell them, probably, until they're adults, because I just think some things kids do not need to know. And scary stuff like that, I will take that one."

The intruder was an employee working on the HVAC unit. He stole all of the money the couple had stored in a backpack.

Celebrity robberies are not uncommon, with many famous faces falling victim to theft or intruders breaking into their homes.

The group stole $3 million in cash and other belongings from Bilson and other celebrities, including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, and Audrina Patridge.

They stole an estimated $1 million worth of jewelry and handbags and left Kemsley dealing with emotional trauma from the invasion.
