PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) -- Paxton is looking to make street repairs throughout the City, using $310,000 in Rebuild Illinois grant funds.
WCIA's partners at the Ford County Chronicle reported that the City Council reviewed a list of streets needing repairs on Dec. 10. At their next meeting on Jan. 14, the council will narrow down the projects based on priority.
Rebuild Illinois funds must be designated for a project by June 30, 3025. Because of this, Michael Livermore, business development manager, is encouraging the council to move quickly so the project is approved by the Illinois Department of Transportation before the deadline.
"We would take measurements and estimate the costs, based on current construction costs and anticipated increases to the market, to give a rough construction estimate to do each section [of road]," Livermore told the Ford County Chronicle. "Then, at that point, it would be up to the council and city officials to prioritize which sections of streets they would like us to proceed further on, and then go forward with design."
Projects on the list include:
During the meeting, the council also discussed the brick streets that are on the project list, and if they could be preserved.
Before the next meeting, the council will receive cost estimates for each proposed street project, including restoration costs to "maintain the current brick streets," instead of overlaying the brick streets with concrete.
