It has only been a few months since the Dimensity 9400 was officially announced, with a multitude of Chinese partners employing the flagship SoC in their premium handsets. However, as suggested by one tipster, the Taiwanese fabless firm will have another surprise ready in the coming months in the form of the Dimensity 9400+, making it the third time in a row that the company will introduce a slightly upgraded version of its high-end silicon.
On Weibo, Digital Chat Station reveals that OPPO is slated to launch three flagships in the first half of next year with display sizes of 6.3 inches, 6.6 inches and 6.8 inches, with all of them supposedly equipped with the Dimensity 9400+. Unfortunately, the tipster did not mention the specifications of the upcoming SoC, but it is likely that there will not be significant differences between it and the Dimensity 9400. We have witnessed a similar tactic adopted by MediaTek when it announced the Dimensity 9300 and Dimensity 9300+.
Like the Dimensity 9300+, the Dimensity 9400+ could ship with higher clock speeds, along with a faster APU, with the possibility that the GPU also gets a small frequency bump. These are just minor specification improvements, meaning that the only possible encouragement for MediaTek to go through with the launch would be to obtain an edge against the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While Qualcomm's latest flagship silicon's performance cores run at 4.32GHz clock speed, with sufficient cooling involved, that frequency can reach 4.57GHz, allowing it to reach a new plateau in single-threaded performance.
Currently, the Dimensity 9400's Cortex-X925 can reach up to 3.63GHz, so at the most, MediaTek can tweak the Dimensity 9400+ to touch 3.70GHz. Keep in mind that a massive clock speed difference would continue to exist even after the chipset's launch, but at least the contrast in synthetic and real-world benchmarks would be reduced. Of course, it is highly recommended that readers treat this rumor with a pinch of salt and we will be back with more updates ready for you.
