GREENSBORO - Jones Elementary dismissed students at 11 a.m. Thursday while crews worked to get the school's heating unit repaired.

Meals were provided to students before they left.

Jones is the latest Guilford County school to have a change in scheduling due to heating issues. In total, five different schools this week have either scheduled a remote learning day or dismissed early due to heating problems.

On Monday, heating problems forced a remote learning day for students and staff at Jackson Middle School and Monticello Brown Summit Elementary.

The issue affected fourth and fifth grade students and staff for Foust Elementary as well. Those students at Foust have been temporarily attending Jackson Middle School since 2022 while the new Foust Gaming and Robotics School is being constructed.

Then on Tuesday the school district announced they would be working on heating problems inside Page High and Maidson Elementary, but due to inclement weather on Tuesday all schools in the county were closed so the issue didn't affect students.

On Wednesday the heating issues at Madison Elementary had been resolved and students returned to class, but at Page High's issues with heating persisted and students and staff had a remote learning day.

The issues were resolved yesterday though and students and staff at Page returned to in-person learning this morning.
