PUTNEY -- Join comic artist and writer Katie Fricas for an illustrated book talk on her new graphic novel, "Checked Out," on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Putney Public Library.
"Checked Out" follows a lesbian cartoonist and library worker as she searches for love online, artistic validation in New York City, and the perfect book. In this illustrated book talk, Fricas will share images from her five-year process of hand-drawing and writing this graphic novel. It started out as an episodic semi-memoir, then morphed into a fictional narrative with a beginning/middle/and end. How? She will share behind-the-scenes peeks at art-making from home and how the creative process takes you on weird twists and turns. She will also talk on the nitty gritty of the work that takes place behind-the-scenes at a library.
Fricas is a cartoonist and editor in New York City. Her comics have been in The New Yorker, The Guardian, and the LA Review of Books. Her first book, "Checked Out," was published by Drawn & Quarterly in 2025.
Putney Public Library is located at 55 Main St. This event is free and open to the public.
