Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) suffered a fall while on an official visit in Luxembourg on Friday, where she was taken to a hospital and underwent successful hip replacement surgery on Saturday.
Pelosi's office released a statement saying the California lawmaker is "well on the mend" after sustaining the injury to her hip "while traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge," according to
"Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend," Krager told the press in a second statement the next day.
"Speaker Pelosi is grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl Army Base and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness," Krager added.
The spokesperson thanked her supporters for "the overwhelming outpouring of prayers and well wishes" while adding that Pelosi "is ever determined to ensure access to quality health care for all Americans."
Rep. Pelosi, 84, is one of the oldest lawmakers in Congress and has also served as the longtime leader of the House Democratic Caucus.
