Chandrapur, Dec 9 (UNI) The Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to roll out the 'Zero Waste Tadoba' project in the sanctuary's buffer zone, located in Chandrapur district of eastern Maharashtra, according to a press statement.
Prabhu Nath Shukla, TATR's field director, described the initiative as an ambitious circular-economy model focused on enhancing scientific waste management, improving sanitation infrastructure and promoting community-driven conservation efforts in the buffer villages.
The MoU follows WCL's approval of a proposal submitted under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, the statement informed.
The project aims to address the growing challenge of non-biodegradable waste, especially in buffer and fringe villages affected by increasing eco-tourism.
It plans to implement structured waste collection, household-level segregation, recycling, composting and scientific disposal across four new clusters Ashta, Zari, Shioni and Somnath covering the entire buffer zone by 2026, the release added.
