Driving in Greensboro on Saturday? Avoid these roads during N.C. A&T homecoming festivities

The 99th edition of what is known as the Greatest Homecoming on Earth, hosted by North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, will close some roads over the weekend, according to the city.

On Saturday at 8 a.m., the N.C. A&T homecoming parade will commence. To prepare for the parade, the following streets will close at 5 a.m.:

Murrow Boulevard from East Friendly Avenue to North Elm Street will close at 5 a.m. and reopen at 1 p.m.East Lindsay Street, from North Church Street to East Bessemer Avenue, will be closed at 5 a.m. and reopen at 7 p.m.Dudley Street, from Lindsay Street to East Market Street, will also be closed at 5 a.m. and reopen at 7 p.m.

Parade parking is recommended at the Church Street parking deck, located at 215 N. Church Street, according to the release.

The following streets will also be closed on Saturday as part of Aggie Fanfest, a free community festival coordinated by the city that will be hosted on Yanceyville Street and Homeland Avenue:

Yanceyville Street from Summit Avenue to Lindsay Street.Homeland Avenue from Yanceyville Street to Murrow Boulevard.Charter Place from Homeland Avenue to Park Avenue.

The three streets will remain closed until Monday, Oct. 13, according to the release.

In addition, Elm Street will be closed to through traffic and on-street parking and is not scheduled to reopen until Oct. 12 at 6:30 a.m.

On-street parking will be restricted on Homeland Avenue and Charter Place, the release said. However, local and residential traffic will be permitted along Homeland Avenue, Charter Place, and Park Avenue.

Downtown event parking is recommended at the Greene Street parking deck, located at 211 S. Greene St., and the Davie Street parking deck, situated at 109 E. Market St, according to the release.

Additionally, a free, two-way shuttle service will run between the Koury Convention Center, located at 3121 W. Gate City Blvd., and the intersection of East Lindsay Street and Sullivan Street near Truist Stadium, from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Traffic in the area of the campus is expected to be congested on Saturday, and on-campus parking and adjacent streets may be closed at various times, as determined by the Greensboro Police Department and the N.C. A&T State University Police.
