KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - For the fourth year, the Change Center will be filled with moms and babies for the Community Baby Shower.
This year, with a few days left to register, the baby shower is expected to welcome in more than 200 people, a far cry from how things started.
Gennisi Charitable Birth Services Executive Director Ty Roberts said the first few years were tough, but a break through in year three lead to a boom in year four.
"So the first year we did it, we didn't really have that great of an outcome, I think we had maybe 70 people registered and maybe 10 people showed up, the second year the same thing, but last year blew my mind and this year is really going to blow my mind," said Roberts.
Outside of door items like diapers and other necessities, Roberts looks forward to the baby shower every year because it builds a community unlike many others.
"I've found out even through the years that a lot of these moms that have met at these baby showers have formed their own groups and have gone on play dates and have maintained relationships and friendships," said Roberts. "And if nothing else, what I want to have happen is these moms come together and building community not only together but as well as the community at large supporting and surrounding them."
