Davina McCall 'taking things slow' as she returns to gym after brain surgery

Davina McCall has shared that she is "taking everything nice and slow" in her return to fitness training after recovering from surgery to remove a "very rare" benign brain tumour.

The 57-year-old former Big Brother presenter, who disclosed the discovery of a colloid cyst back in November, related to her menopause advocacy work, took to Instagram saying, "Ok I'm back training. Been walking daily. Yesterday I did 15 minutes in the gym... just to see."

Adding, "I've lost a lot of muscle so gonna eat really well and train hard ! ! " McCall also runs a fitness community, Own Your Goals Davina, which is promoting a new six-week strength and sculpt challenge with coach Richard Callender.

McCall expressed her enthusiasm: "This @ownyourgoalsdavina challenge has come at the perfect time ... feels quite humbling ... but in a good way."

Reiterating her approach, she stated, "Taking everything nice and slow... really listening to my body... #strengthandsculpt... 20 mins with @richcallender on OYG ... who is with me ? " A stalwart advocate for health and wellbeing, she's well-known for her fitness equipment line, cookbooks, and numerous exercise DVDs. In a social media video from November, McCall spoke about the colloid cyst, labelling it a "big" 14mm wide tumour and "very rare", emphasising, "It needs to come out, because if it grows, it would be bad."

After her surgery, celebrity hairdresser Michael Douglas, who is McCall's partner, kept her many supporters informed about her progress while she recuperated in intensive care. In a heartfelt video update to her fans on November 25, McCall discussed her journey to recovery, expressing gratitude for being back at home, though mentioning her "short-term memory is a bit remiss".

The following month, McCall bravely revealed her surgical scar to her followers during a haircut session with her boyfriend.

The NHS notes that non-cancerous brain tumours typically occur more frequently in those over 50, with symptoms ranging from persistent headaches to vision difficulties and fatigue. Known for her passionate advocacy on women's health matters, McCall has hosted critical documentaries like 'Sex, Myths And The Menopause' and dove into birth control debates with 'Davina McCall's Pill Revolution.'.

In a year of accolades, McCall secured an MBE in the King's birthday honours list for her contributions to broadcasting in 2023 and was also celebrated with the special recognition award at the previous year's National Television Awards in honour of her illustrious career in television.
