Police charge Essex man with drink-driving on the wrong side of A12 - Essex Live

A man has been charged with drink driving and dangerous driving after reports of a car being driven in the wrong direction on the A12 on Tuesday (December 23). Officers responded to numerous calls at just after 5am of a car travelling in the wrong direction on the southbound carriageway of the road in the Kelvedon area.

The car was stopped by officers at just before 5.30am and the driver was arrested. Following an investigation by roads policing officers, charges were secured.

Adam Pipe, head of Roads Policing in Essex, said: "I want to thank members of the public for calling us and enabling us to deal with this incident. Our officers are continuing with their investigation and we would urge anyone who has not already been in contact with us to get in touch.

"We want everyone to be safe and enjoy their Christmas. Think ahead and make sure you know how you are getting home. Our officers will be patrolling throughout the festive season, as they are every day, so do not take the risk. Keep safe and call us if you have any concerns."

Khurram Bashir, 41, Springfield Park Lane, Chelmsford, is charged with driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit and driving a motor vehicle dangerously. He will appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court on Wednesday, December 31.
