Former Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley is facing serious allegations.
Former Houston Rockets guard Patrick Beverley, once one of the city's most beloved defensive players, is facing disturbing allegations after his younger sister accused him of choking and punching her during a confrontation earlier this month, according to TMZ Sports.
Beverley, 37, was arrested in Fort Bend County, Texas, and charged with third-degree felony assault involving a family or household member with alleged impeded breathing -- a serious accusation that carries potential prison time under Texas law.
Beverley spent five-plus seasons (2012-17) with the Rockets, earning a reputation as a hard-nosed, relentless defender and a key figure during the James Harden era.
According to the affidavit obtained by TMZ Sports, Beverley's sister had left the home without permission in the middle of the night on Nov. 14 to meet her boyfriend at a nearby park. When she returned, her mother reportedly told her to call the boyfriend to come back to the residence.
The affidavit states the boyfriend was brought inside, and the mother called over Beverley.
Once Beverley arrived, he allegedly scolded his sister before grabbing her by the neck with both hands and lifting her off the ground, causing her feet to leave the floor. She told officials she felt pain, could not breathe, and feared she was losing oxygen.
She claimed Beverley dragged her out of the bedroom by the neck, slammed her against the wall, placed her on a sofa, then punched her once in the left eye. The affidavit also accuses Beverley of telling her he would be the "family relative to kill her."
Responding officers said they observed marks on her neck and petechiae -- broken blood vessels in the eyes, often linked to choking.
Beverley posted a $40,000 bail and was released the same day. Shortly after, he issued a public response, urging fans not to jump to conclusions.
"Patrick Beverley has no criminal record. He cares deeply about his little sister -- a young lady, a minor. When he found her alone with an 18-year-old man in the middle of the night, he was understandably concerned. However, we don't believe what followed happened the way it's been described. We look forward to addressing this in court."
The arrest is the latest controversy to involve Beverley, who has not played in the NBA since his time with the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2024 postseason. His final game involved an altercation in which he threw a basketball into the stands, hitting a fan -- an incident that resulted in a four-game NBA suspension and a civil lawsuit.
Before the arrest, Beverley also drew national backlash for crude comments he made about Dallas Mavericks forward Klay Thompson and Thompson's girlfriend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion, during an online podcast segment.
During his Rockets tenure, Beverley became a Houston fan favorite for his tenacious energy, defense, and fearless playstyle. He earned All-Defensive First Team honors in 2017, the same year he was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in the Chris Paul deal.
Now, Rockets fans are watching from afar as the veteran guard -- who still maintains a following in Houston -- faces some of the most serious allegations of his career.
