Bo Bichette's regular season is over, but the Toronto Blue Jays hope to have their star shortstop back for the playoffs.
Manager John Schneider confirmed on Tuesday that a second opinion on Bichette's PCL sprain didn't show anything new.
Schneider says the hope is that Bichette can start ramping up training later this week and "be back as soon as possible."
Bichette, 27, was injured in a play at the plate in the team's Sept. 6 game against the New York Yankees. He was later placed on the 10-day injured list retroactive to Sept. 7.
A native of Orlando, Bichette finishes his season batting .311 with a league-leading 181 hits and 44 doubles, 18 home runs, 94 runs batted in and an OPS of .840.
The Blue Jays (88-62) continue a four-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays (73-77) on Tuesday night. The team holds a five-game lead over the New York Yankees atop the American League East.
The Jays have a magic number of four to clinch a playoff spot and nine to clinch a division title.
