AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) - Austintown Police are warning residents about a phone scam.
Police say scammers are making calls in the township and surrounding communities, claiming to be Austintown Police. Police say some of the scam calls gave the name "Detective Adam Hess."
They will say you have missing court dates, and will need to buy and send them gift cards as a penalty.
Austintown Police says it is not calling people, asking for gift cards.
If you get a call like this, hang up and never give personal information over the phone.
