Councillor helps to clean graffiti from new bus stops

A councillor took direct action to rid the new town centre bus stops of graffiti.

Councillor Repi Begum took matters into her own hands on December 29. She travelled to the new bus stops on Flemming Way to clean up the spray paint.

Cleaning sprays were supplied by Cllr Tom Butcher, and volunteers joined the effort.

The revamped version of the main route through the town centre fully opened at the start of September after being closed for three years so that work on the £33m project could be carried out.

In the run-up to Christmas, people on social media highlighted that two blue and white spray paint tags have appeared on the H bus shelter which serves Stagecoach's number 55 public transport route to Chippenham.

Ms Begum said: "A huge thank you to the volunteers who came out in this weather and literally got their hands dirty. Your support makes a real difference."
