Tragic Louth couple had just returned from Dubai days before fatal crash | Dublin Live

Two of the young people tragically killed in a road traffic collision in Co. Louth over the weekend were a couple and had just returned from a holiday in Dubai days before the fatal crash.

Teacher Chloe McGee, 23, (Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan) her boyfriend, Alan McCluskey, 23, (Drumconrath, Co Meath), Chloe Hipson, 21, (Lanarkshire, Scotland) Dylan Commins (Drumconrath, Co, Meath), 23, and Shay Duffy, 21, (Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan) all lost their lives on Saturday evening when the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser on the L3168.

A sixth individual, a male, who was also in the Golf at the time of the collision survived with serious but non-life threatening injuries and currently being treated in hospital. The two occupants of the Land Cruiser were also hospitalised following the crash, but neither suffered life threatening injuries.

School teacher, Chloe McGee and Alan McCluskey were a couple, it has emerged. Speaking on Morning Ireland on Monday, local Sinn Fein Councillor, who is also from Drumconrath, Michael Gallagher, confirmed he knew some of the families caught up in the tragedy.

Cllr. Gallagher said the fact that Chloe and Alan were together would "add to the tragedy" for the McGee and McCluskey families.

"It does add to the tragedy and Chloe was also well known of the community," said Colr. Gallagher. "Alan was a very hardworking young lad. He worked on the father's farm and he was involved with the father in the fencing business as well. And so was Dylan was a mechanic in his father's carriage.

Cllr. Gallagher said he attended a vigil organised by the local priest on Sunday evening and described what he saw.

"We were in the church where again it was packed to capacity - it was a lot of young people.

"The people are stunned, saddened, and just don't know where to go from there and there's going to be few really dark days ahead."

Meanwhile, gardaí in Dundalk continue to investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
