The Houston attorney handling several lawsuits against Sean 'Diddy' Combs is now suing Jay-Z's Roc Nation over alleged payments to his clients to sue his law firm.
Buzbee is representing more than 100 clients with Diddy allegations, but he also has two lawsuits filed against him by former clients. Buzbee claims those two lawsuits are backed by Roc Nation as an effort to intimidate him and get him to drop the cases against Diddy.
"The Defendants overstepped, got sloppy, and stupidly got caught in their illegal scheme on tape," Buzbee said in a statement. "We intend to cooperate with authorities to ensure all involved are prosecuted to the full extent allowed under Texas law." Taking to Instagram, Buzbee shared what he called an excerpt from one of his clients who recorded alleged Roc Nation investigators speaking with them.
"'Investigators' from New York contacted many of our law firm's current and former clients," Buzbee says. "These investigators aren't very smart. What they didn't anticipate was one of the clients decided to record the conversation. It's shocking and illegal. Here's a portion taken directly from the transcript of the contact."
INVESTIGATOR: "In a couple of days or maybe by next week, anyone Googling Buzbee and his company -- his practice -- are going into litigation, okay? What we're trying to do is, we are trying to put this thing together for the company that we're working for -- "
"We could get you paid, you could get money right soon, you know? We gave this kid 1,000 bucks to start yesterday just to get him on the right path. At the end of the day, this is going to go through the courts, Buzbee is getting sued."
"These guys are on tape offering to pay my firm's clients to sue our law firm. That's a crime," Buzbee states. The lawsuit filed in Harris County Texas by Buzbee alleges that Roc Nation is funding this effort.
"Defendants have conspired to obstruct justice by engaging shadowy operatives to illegally seek out more than two dozen1 current and former clients of The Buzbee Law Firm to convince those clients to bring frivolous cases against The Buzbee Law Firm. Defendant Roc Nation is financing the effort," the lawsuit reads.
"Tony Buzbee's baloney lawsuit against Roc Nation is nothing but another sham," a Roc Nation spokesperson told The Houston Chronicle. "It's a pathetic attempt to distract and deflect attention. This sideshow won't change the ultimate outcome and true justice will be served soon."
