Registration for BCSO Citizens Police Academy now open

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) - Registration for the Spring 2025 Beaufort County Sheriff's Office Citizens Police Academy (CPA) is now open.

The CPA program is a free 9-week program for adults. Participants meet once a week and learn about divisions and units within the Sheriff's Office. Some of the topics covered include Patrol Operations, 911 Dispatch Center, Criminal and Cold Case Investigations, Forensic Laboratory, the Firearms Training Simulator and additional safety and crime prevention presentations.

During the program, participants will spend one Saturday learning about and viewing demonstrations by the Sheriff's Office Special Operations Teams including Special Weapons And Tactics, K9 Units and Bloodhound Tracking Team, and more.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be given the opportunity to ride-a-long with a patrol deputy.

For convenience, the program is offered at locations in both northern and southern Beaufort County.

The first class for those registered in the Southern Beaufort County CPA program is scheduled for the first week of February 2025, starting at 6 p.m. in Bluffton.

The first class for those registered in the Northern Beaufort County CPA program is scheduled for the first week of February 2025, starting at 6 p.m. in Beaufort.
