Minnesota wins third straight, dominates Maryland 48-23

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-3, 3-2), easily defeated Big Ten opponent Maryland (4-4, 1-4) at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Quarterback Max Brosmer had a game to remember, as he threw for a career-high as a Gopher 320 passing yards and four touchdowns. He completed 26-of-33 passes (78.8%) and didn't throw an interception.

The Gophers had the game handled early in the first half, as they scored 21 points in the first quarter alone, including a pick-six off Maryland quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. by cornerback Justin Walley.

Edwards was benched by the third quarter in favor of backup. MJ Morris. He finished the day completing 19-for-35 passes for 201 yards and two interceptions. Morris came in relief late in the game when it was already won by Minnesota but played well, completing 7-for-8 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Minnesota true freshman safety Koi Perich snagged another interception, his fifth in five games. Perich continues to flash his talents as he's already considered one of - if not the best - freshman in the nation.

Minnesota led at halftime 34-10 as the defense also dominated against the Big Ten's best passing offense. Minnesota's two interceptions move them into a tie with James Madison (15) for the most among all FBS schools this season.

Running back Darius Taylor took some time to get going, but finished with 15 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown. The score came on a 51-yard dash in the third quarter, the second-longest run of his collegiate career.

Wide receiver Daniel Jackson also had a day. as he hauled in two touchdown passes - double the amount he had coming into the game. Jackson also snagged nine catches for 117 yards, as the passing game was electric for Minnesota.

Minnesota put up 443 total yards and averaged 9.4 yards per pass on the day. It's safe to say the team was prepared and fresh following a bye last week.

The Gophers will next prepare for a challenge against No. 20 Illinois in Champaign, Ill. A kickoff time has yet to be determined as of Saturday night.
