PCMC Intensifies Anti-Mosquito Drive: Over 9.8 Lakh Homes Inspected, ₹40.58 Lakh Fines Collected - Pune Times Mirror

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has stepped up a citywide campaign to contain dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases, combining house-to-house inspections, chemical spraying, public awareness drives and strict penalties.

Since June 1, 2025, civic teams have served notices at around 4,137 locations and taken direct punitive action against 1,142 offenders, collecting Rs 40.58 lakh in fines for mosquito breeding violations.

The health department is conducting chemical spraying, inspecting homes and construction sites, checking water containers and holding awareness programmes across all eight regional offices. Officials say coordinated efforts have begun to reduce mosquito breeding and bring infectious diseases under control.

Inspections and action

Home checks: 9,80,380 houses inspected, with mosquito breeding signs found around 14,274 premises.

Container checks: 51,84,972 containers, including drums, pots and other water storage vessels, examined; mosquito-friendly conditions detected at 15,407 locations.

Tyre puncture and scrap shops: 2,011 outlets inspected and given immediate instructions for corrective measures.

Construction sites: 2,213 sites inspected and ordered to clear unhygienic conditions.

Notices and fines: Notices issued at 4,137 places; direct penalties imposed on 1,142 individuals and establishments, collecting Rs 40.58 lakh in fines.

Focus on awareness

Alongside enforcement, the civic body has prioritised education and cleanliness drives. Teams distribute information leaflets door to door, hold training sessions in schools on health and hygiene, organise ward-level special programmes and conduct public cleanliness campaigns with regular chemical spraying.

Residents are urged to observe a weekly dry day, prevent rainwater accumulation and maintain cleanliness in and around their homes to curb mosquito breeding and keep vector-borne diseases under control.

"The PCMC has implemented well-planned measures to control infectious diseases such as dengue and malaria. Along with spraying, door-to-door inspections, checks at construction sites and container inspections, the corporation is giving priority to public awareness campaigns. These efforts are helping reduce mosquito breeding and bring infections under control. The drive will continue with even stricter and more systematic action," said Vijaykumar Khorate, additional commissioner, PCMC.

"All necessary measures are being taken by PCMC's health department, but citizens' participation is equally important. Observing a weekly dry day can significantly curb the spread of dengue and malaria," said Sachin Pawar, Deputy Commissioner, PCMC.
