The Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Musa Adamu Aliyu, yesterday in Kano, Kano State declared that the Commission recovered a total of
N7.269 billion and N43.335 million in the North - West and North- Eastern region from 2023 to date.
The ICPC boss ,who disclosed this during a media session organised by the Commission in Kano, added the commission also recovered a total of 1.066 million dollars in the North -West during the period under review.
According to him, the ICPC , also seized assets,which include: 14 buildings, 25 plots of land, and three farmlands in these two regions within these dates.
The ICPC boss said further, that the Commission investigated 171 cases in the North West and 54 cases all of which led to 15 cases being filed in courts - nine of which were from the Northwest and six from the Northeast.
On project tracking, he said that 1,440 projects were tracked during this period ,adding that the total value of the projects they tracked stood at approximately N271.054 billion.
"Of these, 767 projects valued at N112.737 billion were in the Northeast, and 673 projects valued at N158.317 billion were in the Northwest." he stated
He disclosed that 311 sensitisation sessions were conducted, with 184 in the Northwest and 127 in the Northeast , adding that these sessions reached a total of 229,632 individuals, with 151,45 0 in the Northwest and 78,182 in the Northeast.
"We also e established 142 anti-corruption clubs in secondary schools and tertiary institutions, with 96 in the Northwest and 46 in the Northeast"he added.
"Importantly, these sessions empowered youth and students-while media coverage ensured their voices travelled far beyond classrooms and community halls."
He explained that the Commission had partnered with traditional rulers, religious Ieaders, civil society, and youth groups, expressing hope that these partnership. would deepen the culture of integrity and encourage citizens to reject, resist, and report corruption.
"The fight requires alliances-with state governments, security agencies, development partners, watchdogs, and community-based organisations-to safeguard resources meant for peace building and reconstruction" he added.
The ICPC boss remarked that preventing corruption in these regions was not just about governance, but about peace, trust, and development.
