Students have until March 31 to apply for June's healthcare camp at PNWU

High school students in the Yakima area who have aspirations of entering the health care field have an upcoming opportunity to gain hands-on experience through the MultiCare Academy for Students in Healthcare -- which is also known as M.A.S.H. Camp.

The program is set to take place June 24-26 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences.

Since 2004, this free program offers high school sophomores, juniors and seniors an in-depth look at various health care careers. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, station rotations, and mock emergency scenarios, gaining exposure to fields such as nursing, radiology, pharmacy and physical therapy.

Under the guidance of experienced health care professionals, students will also take part in learning about essential medical skills, including taking vital signs, suturing techniques, doing CPR and operating medical imaging equipment.

Beyond technical training, the program introduces students to patient care, medical ethics and the day-to-day responsibilities of health care professionals.

The camp extends beyond clinical training by emphasizing teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking, which are some of the foundational skills for health care careers. Through the program's simulated medical scenarios, participants will be taught communication skills as well as instruction on what to do in high-pressure situations, preparing them for real-world challenges in the medical field.

M.A.S.H. Camp also provides students with a glimpse into the academic pathways required for different health care professions. Through visits to local colleges and universities, participants will be able to explore educational programs and connect with medical students, professors and health care professionals who can offer mentorship and career guidance.

Applications for PNWU's 2025 M.A.S.H. Camp will close on March 31. The program is open to students residing in Yakima County who have a demonstrated interest in pursuing a health care career.
