The San Francisco 49ers suspended linebacker De'Vondre Campbell for three games just days after he refused to enter a game following his relegation to the bench.
Campbell was one of the team's leading free agent acquisitions this past offseason after the 49ers were spurned by linebacker Eric Kendricks, prompting them to settle for the former Green Bay Packers linebacker.
But, the veteran started the year slow before slowly starting to find his groove over the second half of the season. Then came the fiasco against the Los Angeles Rams, leading to a loud outcry from current players disregarding Campbell's actions, ultimately leading to his suspension.
Are there any locker room concerns following the fallout with Campbell for the 49ers?
"This locker room's great," Bosa said ahead of the team's Week 16 matchup. "It's always been great. But sometimes, when you bring somebody who's older in, and from a different place, you don't know. I mean, he was a good dude. It's not like I didn't like him. But, no, there's no issues in this locker room -- very rarely."
Head coach Kyle Shanahan reiterated the sentiment, pointing to the unity from the locker room that Campbell's behavior was unacceptable, rather than there being some form of a locker room issue.
"We're working through the semantics of exactly how to deal with it, but you guys heard from me last night, you guys heard from our players, his actions from the game just, it's not something you can do to your team or your teammates and still expect to be a part of our team," Shanahan said after the loss. "So, we're working through exactly the semantics of it right now, but we'll handle the situation appropriately."
The 49ers locker room doesn't seem to be an issue after this recent snafu. But, it's another event in a year of emotional buildup that has seemingly caught up with the team as they tried to miraculously make a final all-in push this season with hopes of winning a Super Bowl.
That could be a number of new faces in the locker room next offseason, especially up at the top of the roster where a number of elite veterans have held their roles for several years.
But, for now, the 49ers faced another setback this past weekend with the unprovoked actions of Campbell's, and the team made sure to let their feelings one way or another, showing a sense of unity within the locker room during the different times.
